The exhibition explores the development of a family institution over the past 150 years. During this time period family models changed from the pre-revolutionary patriarchal to the Soviet idea of a social unit. This project poses following questions: What is a modern family? What its functions are? How is our understanding of norm formed?
The exhibition can be viewed via two routes: historical or thematic. The thematic route offers a look at the development of relations within one family: from a meeting, a wedding, to the birth of children, etc. Each of these sections is enclosed in a separate circular podium. The installation at the entrance repeats the structure of the panel house, where families with different lifestyle and values coexist. The final area of the exhibition is dedicated to the family dinner as the main tradition that unites generations.
