VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) is an aircraft which can hover, take off and land vertically. It is as well the pen name of Dmitry Morozov, Russian transdisciplinary artist. In his work he focuses on contemporary media arts, such as sound, robotics and installation. He highlights the connection between emergent systems and new kinds of technological synthesis, which he finds essential nowadays.

«Interfacing the Reality» is the first personal exhibition of Morozov aka ::vtol::. It is not a mere collection of his works — but a unique conceptual space, consistent with Morozov's artistic vision. It is a «total installation», with its elements representing the machinery which is way out of human control. Such machinery operates according to its own irrational, «jailbroken» logic.

Morozov's «nom de guerre» is what actually inspired our artistic solution. We arranged the exhibition space as an aircraft cabin — with seat rows, aircraft wings, cargo bay and a cockpit. The latter serves as proper platform to observe the central work from — «Mayak» (The Lighthouse). The exhibition style is rather laconic: we mostly turned it black and white, with the exception of tin foil which we used for the «fuselage». The visitors are guided by the cabin lights; these lights also replicate the logo of the exhibition.
