‘Byzantine Symphony: Treasures of the Earth and Heaven’ is an exhibition of Byzantine coins opened at the Museum of the International Numismatic Club. This museum has pretty chamber setting. There are only three halls and we think it’s perfectly suited for showcasing small art objects, especially coins. We decided to make an atmosphere of the Byzantium creating an image of a basilica with the row of opened arches.
Transparent colonnade and arches refers to the Byzantine architecture. Shapes are derived from both ecclesiastical and secular designs. All columns are equipped with exhibition niches, which lined with yellow velvet. Warm honeyed light, reflecting off the pale walls, fills the exhibition space and softens the angles of the architecture. Reliefs depicting Byzantine rulers was created specially for this exhibition. This interaction helps you uncover the hidden meanings behind each element of the rulers’ imperial attire.
