Exposition space of Stroganov University 200 years jubilee retrospective — the vast Parking Gallery at Zaryadye Park, — was divided into six sections. Architects and curators of the exhibition decided that each section would represent a certain period in the history of the paramount Russian art school.

A particular focus was placed on the school’s famous teachers who pioneered new trends and techniques among students throughout several periods in the school’s history. Contour propylaea with domes at the entrance group of the exhibition became the signature element of design project by repeating the silhouette of early XX Century Russian Revival architecture. This construction leads to a section dedicated to applied arts a la historicism, Russian style and modern.

While developing design-project of the exposition, the architects strived to demonstrate the school’s ephemeral legacy of applied arts and design in the most appealing manner appropriate to the school’s status as the first Russian university that started using a valid education system in design studies. By using didactics the architecture of the exposition reveals the school’s 1920-s transformation into the legendary Vkhutemas that gravitated towards the aesthetic of Bauhaus. Intimate settings were retained in an area dedicated to the 1870-s via lightning design decisions as well as by exhibiting personal items of the most famous persons of the period. The leitmotif of Stroganov’s education is emphasises through monochromatic elements of design and contrasting light of the exposition — an allusion to the school’s experimental nature and artistic freedom through centuries.
